In single-player mode, Prince of Qin gives the player a party of up to five members consisting of the central prince character plus four other characters that may be selected from various NPCs he meets. Accordingly, the title deals with a real setting involving actual historical characters and reflecting the political and social machinations in which they participated, blending in a fictional storyline in which Fu Su fights to obtain revenge and obtain his true birthright. However, within Prince of Qin, he instead launches himself on a mission to determine the truth behind the edict. In reality, the prince followed the order, ending his life at age 30. While working to accomplish these goals, he received a forged imperial edict to commit suicide. As a result, he was banished to China's northern border to assist in building the Great Wall and to defend the border from Mongol invaders. When the Emperor of China's Qin dynasty ordered the brutal murder of many scholars and the destruction of books, crown prince Fu Su stood up to his father.
